Santa Barbara Amorphous-15 (SBA-15)

It is a kind of white powder amorphous silica that has high mechanical and hydrothermal stability due to the presence of thick walls compared to MCM-41. It also has a unique hexagonal structure with a large pore size ranging from 3-10 nm. SBA-15 synthesis occurs in an acidic condition in presence of Pluronic 123 (triblock copolymer) and the TEOS as the silica source. Later the organic template is removed by the calcinations or the solvent washing methods.

SBA-15 offers the same application as MCM-41, but having more thermal stability and big pores leads to a better and more stable catalyst.
